Venezuelans Seek Refuge Amidst Turmoil

Millions Flee Country Due to Crisis

International Community Responds

The ongoing crisis in Venezuela has led to an exodus of millions of its citizens. Over 5 million Venezuelans are now displaced worldwide, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The humanitarian crisis in Venezuela is a result of political unrest, economic turmoil, and a lack of basic necessities.

The international community has responded to the crisis by providing humanitarian aid and support to refugees. The Government of Canada and the European Union will co-host the high-level International Conference in solidarity with Venezuelan refugees and migrants on June 17, 2023.

As a result, 2021 saw UNHCR follow a two-track approach to supporting Venezuelan refugees and migrants.

The situation in Venezuela remains precarious, and the flow of refugees is expected to continue. The international community must remain committed to providing support to Venezuelans seeking refuge.

The crisis in Venezuela is a reminder of the devastating consequences of political and economic crises. It is a tragedy that has forced millions of people to flee their homes and seek refuge in foreign countries.
